Recognizing Gratitude & Peace While Working at Home

I’ve been able to recognize more peace while being able to work from home two days out of the week. I walk around the house realizing the many blessings I have around me. Once everyone leaves the house and the noise quiets down, it brings about a stillness of peace and optimism.

Working from home offers several positive aspects that can help you stay grounded and grateful.

  • Flexibility:  You can set your schedule to your liking while at home. Prioritizing work and home duties according to your timeline provides great autonomy. Creating your workspace that suits your needs, optimizing a sense of control and more independence than you probably would have in the office.

  • Commute Less: Eliminating the daily commute not only saves time but reduces stress, allowing you to start and end your workday more peacefully.

  • Cost Savings: Working from home can reduce expenses related to commuting, such as meal packing, and spending money on work attire, which can be a savings financially.

  • Enhanced Productivity: I can focus on my assignments better at home without the added distractions in the workplace.

  • Personal Growth: The autonomy of working from home encourages self-discipline, time management skills, and the ability to reflect on what’s important.

Focusing on these aspects can help maintain a positive perspective on working from home. Moreover, integrating moments of mindfulness throughout your workday can help maintain that sense of peace. Start each day by acknowledging three things you’re grateful for. This simple practice can shift your mindset and set a positive tone for the day ahead.

3 Things I’m Grateful for While Working at Home:

  • The ability to be comfortable in my own space. I can wear what I want, have the thermostat set to a temperature I find comfortable, and eat when I’m ready to eat and not when the clock says. I’m totally comfortable in my own home!

  • I don’t have to rush in this fast-paced world. I can slow things down to my liking. Set my schedule (unless there’s a scheduled Zoom on the calendar) I can do a few chores and even prepare dinner earlier, which allows me more time to do other things in the evening.

  • The ability to destress. I have time to clear my mind and reflect on my goals. I can set time to do a stretching exercise or a quick yoga session in the comfort of my own home. I have time to manage both my personal life and my work life without compromising one for the other.

By fostering gratitude you can create an environment that nurtures productivity and peacefulness. While going to the office can be beneficial, like having access to all the office equipment, maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, and building trust with management, finding the right balance between going to the office and working at home is imperative to your personal growth and mental well-being.

Let’s be honest, having to compete with others in the workplace is not my idea of peaceful. The competition can be biased as to who’s the better employee, depending on who you ask. While I enjoy the comradery with some of my coworkers, I don’t enjoy the office drama.

While I realize not everyone can work from home, being able to find peace wherever you can is crucial to living a stress-free life. Taking the time to walk outside for a break or finding time on the drive to work by listening to positive and inspirational messages or Podcasts, can help you improve your mental state while at work.

So for me to have at least two days out of the five-day work week - to myself, to destress from the world is refreshing and I don’t take it for granted. Recognizing you can have gratitude and peace while working at home allows you to create a balanced, fulfilling life, where productivity and personal well-being can coexist joyfully.
