3 Things About Money to Help Keep Your Sanity

There’s a misconception about money being the root of all evil, but money is a resource that is needed to live in this world. However, your thoughts and feelings about money could get the best or worst of you. Financial self-care is an essential practice to maintain your sanity when it comes to money matters. Establishing a routine that focuses on your financial well-being can help alleviate stress and anxiety related to finances.

Here are three things I have learned about money

and how to not let it stress me out.

Establish a Financial Self-Care Routine

Review your finances weekly, and create a budget that aligns with your goals. Cut out overspending or bad habits. Eliminate spending on items you don’t necessarily need. Get creative on ways to save money, such as eating out less, bringing your lunch to work and breakfast which is less expensive anyway. Find ways to cut or minimize the amount of streaming services you need. Here, you can rotate the service, and once that series is over cancel it. You can always restart it again and catch up on new shows later. Make sure your family including your partner and kids are also on the same page. Having family meetings is also important, so everyone understands what the family goals are and why they are important.

Community Support System

It is easier to stick with your financial goals when you have a partner or friend who will motivate you to help you succeed. An accountability partner is someone who understands how important your goals are and won’t judge you for them. They will help you stay accountable like a recovering addict has a sponsor. This person won’t tempt you into going out to eat, going shopping, or otherwise because they know you are trying hard to be financially smart. There’s nothing worse than having buyer’s remorse. So make sure you are sticking close to the RIGHT kind of people to help you on your financial journey. You control your destiny, so have confidence in saying no to others who might persuade you to lose focus on what you’re trying to accomplish.

Develop a Mindfulness & Abundance Mindset

Practice mindfulness and cultivate an abundance mindset by shifting your thinking to a place of gratitude and contentment. Here you can set realistic expectations about where you are on your financial journey, appreciate the things you do have, and most importantly show gratitude for those things. Granted we all have needs and wants but when we look at the necessities of life and if you can say you have those basic needs, you can appreciate where you are in life because you’re not bogged down in excessive amounts of debt. It’s hard in a social media-filled world where everyone is sharing all the glitz and glam of things to admire, but don’t get caught up in the materialistic things of this world. Having a life of peace is far more important to me than having the anxiety and stress over….how I am going to pay for something. Money is not something you should constantly worry about. There are more important things in the world to consume our thoughts or give energy to.

Some key components of a financial self-care routine include creating a budget, tracking expenses, setting financial goals, saving for emergencies, investing for the future, and practicing mindfulness. By incorporating these practices into your daily life, you can gain better control over your finances and improve your overall well-being.

Remember that financial self-care is not just about managing money; it's also about developing healthy attitudes and behaviors toward finances. Taking care of your financial health can lead to greater peace of mind and a more secure future.
